Hitachi to implement "Green Hospital Demonstration Project" at AIIMS

Aim to reduce power consumption of hospital by 30% through optimization in hospital operation by using ICT

New Delhi, March 30, 2017- Hitachi, Ltd. (“Hitachi” / TSE:6501) and Hitachi India Pvt. Ltd. today announced that they have been entrusted the implementation of "ICT-based Green Hospital Demonstration Project" at AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) New Delhi by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The project demonstration duration is for three years from March 2017 to March 2020. This demonstration project follows a feasibility study* that Hitachi conducted at AIIMS New Delhi from April 2015 to February 2016 whose results were evaluated by NEDO.

Under the ambit of this demonstration project, Hitachi will build an ‘ICT Platform’ infrastructure (ICT – Information and Communications Technology) for AIIMS New Delhi with the objective of reducing the hospitals’ power consumption by 30% (compared with fiscal year 2014, actual). This ICT Platform infrastructure will control and promote efficient energy consumption and clinical efficiency, thereby improving overall hospital operations.

ICT-based Green Hospital Demonstration Project: Implementation details

Hitachi will install a new photovoltaic power generation facility, update existing facilities such as chiller, lighting etc. with highly efficient ones, as well as build a system to carry out control, grasp and monitoring of status of energy consumption of the entire hospital. In addition, Hitachi will accelerate electronic management of medical image data by introducing energy-saving IT equipment.

In future, Hitachi aims for further conservation of energy by integrating operational information obtained from utility and medical equipment, clinical information obtained from the hospital information system, weather information, etc. on the ICT Platform and devising an optimal operation plan for utility equipment.
Through these efforts, Hitachi will contribute to realize the "Green AIIMS concept" through demonstrating the effectiveness of its energy management system for the entire hospital. Hitachi will continue working further to improve hospital operation and medical efficiency from the viewpoint of utilization of accumulated medical data.

Background to the Demonstration Project

There is an urgent need for improvement of social infrastructure for India, which houses a population of about 1.25 billion people. Especially due to rapid economic development in recent years, there has been a growing shortage of electric power. Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India has promoted energy conservation to one of India's largest National medical institute named as AIIMS and announced "Green AIIMS concept" as a model case to other hospitals in June 2014.

Hitachi will contribute to the mid-long term development of Indian society through  Social Innovation Business, which combines infrastructure technology and sophisticated IT, including solutions business for the healthcare industry.
